I love fashion blog...@Tiago, thanks for the link... I love fashion blogs and yours was very entertaining. The only one correction I might have is that you have two pictures of Aleshia Brevard (who I very slightly know and is still wonderful) and not of April Ashley. Aleshia wasn't really a fashion model, she was more of a showgirl (and later, actress) who appeared as a beauty in films and television. April was very much a real model and appeared several times in a number of layouts in editions of Vogue, was photographed by David Bailey and did some very big runway shows like Ossie Clark. And then of course, neither of us mentioned the fabulous Amanda Lear who was a genuine top model from the mid-60s to early 70s and, no matter what she sometimes claims, does indeed have a trans history.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11126067426459920339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-49156908698212496692010-07-19T12:38:01.756-07:002010-07-19T12:38:01.756-07:00Hi Gina! Great post!
By coincidence, in the same week I did a post about transsexuals in the fashion industry (http://revuedemode.blogspot.com/2010/05/model-file-transexuais.html). Now, researching about the brazilian bombshell, Roberta Close, I found your blog, your post. Congratulations! I hope you like my blog! Although we can see the images he's used, how he played with having the most androgynous male model in the same image as Lea... and I do think this is, on some level, playing with people's minds. Givenchy was responsible for disseminating the information about using a trans model-they put out a press release. Was this to show what a progressive company they are (which they often aren't... but that's another post about their prior emphasis on heteronormativity) or to use her in the campaign as publicity in a certain way (eg. not specifically identifying who she is). What I'm responding to is how the discussions around these images totally centered around "spot the trans person" in the many blogs where they appeared. To me, that's almost more important than what Tisci's given statement about the images is. Let's face it, a lot of designers make a bs pretentious statements about their work that's just playing with the press. :-)Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11126067426459920339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-18284800972246106272010-05-21T12:23:05.477-07:002010-05-21T12:23:05.477-07:00Hi there,

I don't know that I wholly agree with your interpretation of the Givenchy campaign though.

The only information we really have about Riccardo Tisci's perspective on employing a transwoman is that one statement. Everything else surrounding the story is spin by the media. I would be more apt to point the focus at the media's need to focus on the inclusion of a transwoman and not speculate so much about the motivation of Givenchy or Riccardo Tisci - because we don't know.Black Nyxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12720208113703312415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-49014206545015485462010-05-18T21:46:58.771-07:002010-05-18T21:46:58.771-07:00I love all the style its really very cool all the ...I love all the style its really very cool all the styles I love that long silver boots thanks for sharing this awesome post in long boots
I prefer Doc Martens BootsMarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07503855393440968091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-17191151609915925602010-05-14T11:56:23.413-07:002010-05-14T11:56:23.413-07:00I wasn't referring to what you wrote, Gina! All of these models, in some way or other, have been labelled as trans and had to deal with the repercussions.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11126067426459920339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-62321944936116803942010-05-12T07:26:04.840-07:002010-05-12T07:26:04.840-07:00As a fashion junkie, I really appreciated this pos...As a fashion junkie, I really appreciated this post. I do wish, however, that when someone has transitioned, that person would no longer be referred to as "trans" or considered a "trans model." It bugs me when the past counts for more than the present. I know things have improved, but we have a long way to go.Véro Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02895169022031921712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5774093333515644935.post-77154831066463370882010-05-11T22:53:38.704-07:002010-05-11T22:53:38.704-07:00Splendid post, thanks.Splendid post, thanks.cartografiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08086490510819867304noreply@blogger.com
